Virtual Hawaii 360 was concieved in 2018 by Scott Sweeney. The initial concept was to offer links and articles to VR videos and 360 degree images of Hawaii that could be accessed by VR goggles such as the Oculus Go. While this concept did not take off as intended, the website was changed to be an informative content fueled website that mainland visitos and kama’aina alike can use to research the islands and offer a fresh perspective on the news and views from inside and outside.
Scott Sweeney, a seasoned digitial marketing expert hailing from Dayton, Ohio, is the innovative mind behind the experience of Virtual Hawaii 360. Despite splitting time between Hawaii and the mainland, Scott’s fascination with the rich culture and breathtaking beauty of Hawaii is a significant part of his identity, something he cherishes and takes immense pride in.
His connection with the Aloha State is not just a hobby, but a deeply personal one. In 2013, Scott and his wife, Katie, chose the island of Oahu as the backdrop for their wedding, further cementing their bond with the islands. Since their first visit in 2009, the Sweeney family has returned to the Hawaiian archipelago an impressive 11 times, each trip further fueling their love for this Pacific paradise.
Among the many enchanting locales scattered across the islands, Scott’s favorite retreat is the tranquil town of Kahuku. Nestled on the northern shore of Oahu, Kahuku is a haven of serenity away from the bustling tourist hotspots, offering an authentic slice of Hawaiian life that Scott and his family deeply appreciate.
The Sweeneys are also avid hikers, often venturing off the beaten path to explore Hawaii’s lush landscapes and stunning vistas. These adventurous excursions allow them to fully immerse themselves in the islands’ natural beauty, creating lasting memories with each trail they conquer.
In addition to his passion for Hawaiian culture and landscapes, Scott has a unique hobby that further connects him to the islands – he is a proud owner of a collection of 12 ukuleles. This traditional Hawaiian instrument is a symbol of his deep appreciation for the islands’ musical heritage, and each ukulele in his collection holds a special place in his heart. In fact, he has written and recorded several ukulele songs.
In essence, Scott Sweeney is not just a marketing professional; he is a devoted Hawaii enthusiast, a passionate explorer, and a ukulele collector. His love for Hawaii extends beyond the islands’ sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters, reaching into its vibrant culture, its captivating music, and its welcoming spirit.
