The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) has issued an important notice for all Oʻahu motorists regarding a temporary traffic shift at the Kaipapaʻu Bridge, scheduled for Friday, July 28, 2023. The shift, due to commence at 3 p.m., is necessary to facilitate crucial waterline work.
The Repairs to the Bridge are Needed
To ensure seamless traffic flow and minimal disruptions, vehicular traffic will be rerouted to the Kaipapaʻu Bridge from the temporary bridge, currently serving as the main transit route. The public can expect this adjustment to last only as long as the waterline work is underway. Following the completion of these upgrades, traffic will be redirected back to the temporary bridge.
The HDOT is ensuring that throughout this period, there will be no disruption to water services. Pedestrian traffic will also remain unaffected, allowing residents and visitors alike to navigate the area as per usual.
Despite these accommodations, motorists are advised to anticipate potential delays and allocate additional time for their journeys. The department encourages all drivers to exercise caution while traversing the area during the work period.
To keep abreast of the progress, updates will be provided via the Kaipapaʻu Bridge Replacement project’s website, available at https://www.kaipapaubridge.com/. The public is encouraged to consult this resource for up-to-date information.
Please note that all work carried out is subject to favorable weather conditions.
