Tree Trimming Work on Kaumualiʻi Highway in Kalāheo

The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) has recently announced an important update for Kauaʻi motorists. Beginning Monday, July 10, tree trimming work will commence on Kaumualiʻi Highway (Route 50) in the beautiful town of Kalāheo. This operation is part of the HDOT’s ongoing commitment to maintaining and improving the state’s roadways for the safety and convenience of all road users.

The tree trimming work will result in single-lane closures in the westbound direction, specifically in the vicinity of Lauoho Road and Puʻuwai Road. The work schedule is set from Monday, July 10 through Friday, July 14, between 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. During this period, traffic will be alternated through the open eastbound lane.

The HDOT has clarified that such work must be carried out during the day for the safety of both the crews and motorists. Night-time operations can be hazardous due to poor lighting and shadow conditions, and the department is committed to ensuring the highest standards of safety.

Motorists are advised to use alternate routes if possible, expect delays, and proceed with caution in the work area. Electronic message boards will be set up to provide closure information. Please note that all roadwork is subject to weather conditions.
